Für den dritten Output gingen Terra Toma einen Schritt weiter und blieben von professionellen Studios fern. Mit einer nicht unbescheidenen Investition in Mikrofone, Interfaces und Software wurde ein Home Studio geschaffen, in dem Terra Toma über den Sommer 2017 an neuem Material werkten.
Das Resultat ist „The Play (Part One)“, der Tragödie erster Teil. Neun zusammenhängende Tracks behandeln sowohl musikalisch als auch textlich diverse mythologische Aspekte. Raum und Zeit sind hier variabel – es gibt keinen Beginn und auch kein eindeutiges Ende. Ich, du, wir und sie sind nicht festgelegt. Vielmehr gleicht der Inhalt dieses Werkes einem nicht-chronologischen, chaotischen Gedankenfaden. Als Basis für „The Play“ wurde Goethes „Faust“ verwendet – die uralte Geschichte: Mann verkauft seine Seele an den Teufel, um ewiges Leben zu erhalten. Der Pakt wird ihm allerdings im Laufe der Zeit zum Verhängnis. Terra Toma’s Adaption des Themas findet im Kopf eines einzigen Menschen statt, dort gewinnt ein zweites Ich an Macht. Zunehmend nimmt es Einfluss auf die Psyche und schließlich auf den ganzen Körper.


For their third longplayer, TERRA TOMA went a step further and completely unshackled themselves from any external forces. Meaning, they invested a considerable amount of money in microphones, interfaces and software, so they could create their own home studio. Now an entirely autarkic band, TERRA TOMA went ahead and started work on „The Play (Part One)“ in summer of 2017.
The result ist the first chapter of a tragedy. Nine interconnected tracks approach various mythological aspects, musically as well as lyrically. Space and time are volatile – there is no definite beginning and no definite ending. There is no I, no you, no we, no they. The content of the album is similar to a train of thought – non-chronological and mired in chaos. The main influence for „The Play“ was Goethe’s „Faust“: The story of man who sells his soul tot he devil to achieve ultimate bliss or eternal life. The deal with the devil eventually leads to utter calamity. TERRA TOMA’s adaption of this particular theme takes place in one singular person’s head. There, a second „Ego“ becomes more powerful. More and more it overpowers the psyche and finally the body as well.
